FORMAT

Round Robin Net Best Ball Match Play

5 flights of 6 teams playing net best ball match play (80% of handicap). Teams are flighted by GHIN handicap (80%) total for the team. Each team then plays five 9-hole matches (round robin against each team in the flight) using each players’s 80% handicap with one point for winning each hole and zero points for losing a hole. If the net low ball on a hole is tied with the opponent, then the second ball for each team is matched up. If both scores are still tied, then the point for the hole is halved and each team gets 1/2 point. There are 9 points available for each 9-hole match. Each team has an accumulated point total over the course of the five 9-hole matches. After all five matches are concluded, the team with the most points in its flight is declared the winner. If there is a tie for first or second place in a flight it is broken with a chip-off.

Shootout

Each flight winner from the five flights gets entry into the final shootout to determine an overall winner. The second place teams from each flight competes in a chip-off, and the winner gets the 6th and final spot in the shootout. The shootout is five holes of net best ball with a team getting eliminated every hole. By the fifth hole, two teams remain with the winner of that hole crowned the overall champion.

*Chip-off: the players involved each chip from a pre-determined location by the tournament committee. The player closest to the pin after all of the players have hit will be determined the winning team.

*Shootout: six teams start the shootout using 80% of each player’s handicap for net best ball. On the first hole, the team with the highest score on the hole is eliminated, while the five teams remaining move on to the next hole. If two (or more) team’s net best balls are tied on the hole, the second team-member’s scores are counted. If still tied, then the teams go to a chip-off with the closest player’s team advancing and team farthest from the pin eliminated. This process continues with a team eliminated on each hole until two teams are left for the final hole. The winner of that hole is crowned the overall champion of The RGC Shootout.
